In February of 2022, I was commissioned to photograph the Wintercount ancestral skills gathering which takes place in southern Arizona every year. I’ve attended as a student in past years, and have also attended other gatherings like this one across Turtle Island since 2011, which celebrate sharing and learning land-based skills. It was a fun project to experiment with photographing such a multi-faceted gathering with a varied array of subject material. These are a few select photographs out of few hundred snapped at this desert event.
